Must Read in 2016 (casual book tag-style challenge)

MustRead2016

Here are the rules:

instruct

I was pretty awful with reading in 2015. I had months where I would read nothing at all. I just couldn’t concentrate to read or I just didn’t care. So, here are the books that I MUST read in 2016, because I never got around to them in 2015 and I really wanted to.

 must read 2016

Honorable mention (because I’ve already read the series, but this one is so pretty, so I MUST read it):

I don’t have everybody fan-casted, but here are the ones that I do 🙂 Some of them would obviously need wigs (or to dye their hair) and contacts, but that’s a given when it comes to fantasy series.

My 2013 Recap

2013 held a lot of amazing things for me, mixed in with some sad things as well. It’s nice to look back on the year and see what I’ve overcome, what I’ve enjoyed, and what I hope to improve on in 2014.

  • January: I don’t remember this month all that well. I did get my Christmas presents from Haley in the mail though. I won an ARC of “Unravel Me” by: Tahereh Mafi, for reading “Shatter Me” online in only 9 hours (that’s with bathroom and eating breaks).
  • February: My mum was in the hospital twice and it was one of the most frightening things I’ve experienced. My auntie Misty visited from Florida. I visited my favorite teacher from high school, Mrs Richardson.
  • March: Not a lot happened this month.
  • April: Haley bought my plane tickets to come out to Chicago, along with our tickets to see the JoBros the day I got in. Went on a walk with my parents around the fairgrounds. My baby cousin Elysia was born.
  • May: Took my mum out to the local ice cream shop for Mother’s Day and then we walked around the fairgrounds while we ate our ice cream. My gramma E died.
  • June: Bought some of the stuff I needed to go to Chicago. Turned 21.
  • July: Flew for the first time by myself to Chicago. Met Haley and Sarah, for the first time. Saw the Jonas Brothers live. Went to the Taste of Chicago. Rode the ferris wheel on the Chicago Navy Pier. Saw 5 Seconds of Summer and One Direction live.

  • August: Won an ABC Family summer prize pack and a book.
  • September: Got myself a library card so that I could read ebooks for free. Went to the local ice cream place for the last time of the season and then went on a walk around the fairgrounds. Visited Mrs. Richardson with Jerrica.
  • October: Went to the Fair with my mum and Jerrica. Saw Jana Kramer live and met her at the Fair.

Image

  • November: One of my friends, Kristina, sent me a postcard from London while she was studying abroad. Made four yummy desserts for Thanksgiving. Won a dvd set of the first 10 episodes of the tv show “The Fosters”. Put up the Christmas tree with mummy.
  • December: Went to the town Christmas tree lighting with my parents. Painted a Starry-night Tardis tote bag for a friend. Won a set of fragrance pencils from Mark. Girl. Got Christmas presents from Jerrica, Haley, Andrea, Holly, my brother & sis-in-law, and Lore. Made a yummy dessert for Christmas.

In 2014, I hope to finally get my license and a job. Along with start filling out college applications. I’ve been putting it off for too long. Anxiety holds me back from a lot of things, but I’m trying to not let it. We’ll see what happens with my 2014 at the end of next year.

Happy New Year! xx

End of Year Book Survey – 2013 Edition

Image

Thanks to Jamie (she also made the little graphics!) for posting this end of year book survey! It’s fun to go back and look and think over what I’ve read throughout the year! I didn’t read as much this year as I did last, but that doesn’t matter. I finally got to some books that I’ve been meaning to read for awhile. As I close off this year of reading and move onto the next; I have to say, I’m so excited for the upcoming year that I hope is filled with lots and lots of books!

Image
1. Best Book You Read In 2013?

Even though it made me me cry like a little baby (maybe that’s one of the reasons why I actually gave it a five on GoodReads), is “Allegiant” by: Veronica Roth.

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More, But Didn’t?

“Requiem” by: Lauren Oliver, hands down. I was somewhat content with the ending, but I still really wanted more. Alex is one of my favorite book guys out there and it just sucked not seeing much of him and even more how him and Lena ended up.

3. Most surprising (in a good way!) book of 2013?

“Hush, Hush” by: Becca Fitzpatrick! I honestly didn’t think I was going to like it at all, but I loved it. I only ended up giving it a chance, because it was put up for a day for free to read on Simon Teen’s site Pulse It. I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the books in the series!

I’d also say “Shatter Me” by: Tahereh Mafi, along with “Incarnate” by: Jodi Meadows. I had no intention of ever reading either of those, but I absolutely loved both of them.

4. Book you read in 2013 that you recommended the most to people in 2013?

“Allegiant” by: Veronica Roth. I will recommend that series to anybody that hasn’t read it.

5. Best series you discovered in 2013?

There’s two that I’ve discovered this year that I love. The first being the Shatter Me trilogy and the second being the Incarnate trilogy.

6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2013?

Kasie West! I read “Pivot Point” in early December after Jamie reviewed it, because it had been sitting in my Kindle for awhile; and I loved it!

7. Best book that was out of your comfort zone or was a new genre for you?

I never really read books about witches/wizards… So, I guess I’d have to same the Harry Potter series. It’s the first time I’m reading them and I just finished the fifth book in the series a tiny bit ago.

8. Most thrilling, unputdownable book in 2013?

“Allegiant” by: Veronica Roth. I read all 526 in a day. I only put it down to eat, go to the bathroom, and to get my eyes to not be as blurry from sobbing.

9. Book you read in 2013 that you are most likely to re-read next year?

“Unravel Me” by: Tahereh Mafi. The last book in the series is coming out in February and I’ll probably re-read it to refresh my memory.

10. Favorite book cover of a book you read in 2013?

This is really difficult! Most of the books I read have really pretty covers! So, here’s a few because I can’t decide.

Image

Image

Image

11. Most memorable character in 2013?

It’s a three-way tie between Tris Prior, Tobias Eaton, and Uriah Pedrad. They’re all from the Divergent trilogy.

12. Most beautifully written book in 2013?

“Golden” by: Jessi Kirby.

13. Book that had the greatest impact on you in 2013?

“Allegiant” by: Veronica Roth, hands down. No book has ever made me cry. I’m not a crier whatsoever, but I bawled my eyes out reading this book. It just hit me so hard and I mourned over it for a couple weeks. I couldn’t even talk about the book without almost bursting into tears again. It still hurts.

14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2013 to finally read?

The Harry Potter series! I wasn’t allowed to read the books when I was growing up, so they kind of just flew off my radar for awhile. I’ve seen all the movies so many times I’ve lost count, but I finally picked up the first book back at the end of September! And I managed to read the first five books for 2013 ended! I plan to start reading the sixth book soon!

15. Favorite passage/quote from a book you read in 2013?

Oh man, this is a difficult one. I’m a words person, definitely. So, I always pick out quotes and things I love from books. I think I’ll choose one from “Allegiant” though, because that book made me so emotional.

16. Shortest and Longest book you read in 2013?

Shortest: “Mila 2.0: Origins: The Fire” by: Debra Driza
Longest: “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” by: JK Rowling

17. Book that had a scene in it that had you reeling and dying to talk to somebody about it?

“Allegiant” by: Veronica Roth. I was bugging people to read it faster so that I had somebody to talk to it about!

18. Favorite relationship from a book you read in 2013? (be it romantic, friendship, etc.)

There’s such a long list of these. Feel free to ask me what book the relationships are from, because I don’t feel like listing that part too (:

  • Tris/Christina (friendship)
  • Tris/Tobias (romantic)
  • Tris/Uriah (friendship)
  • Uriah/Christina (friendship)
  • Christina/Tobias (friendship)
  • Harry/Ron/Hermione (friendship)

  • Julie/Matthew (romantic)
  • Aria/Perry (romantic)
  • Ana/Sam (romantic)
  • Juliette/Adam (romantic)
  • Juliette/Kenji (friendship)
  • Jude/her dad (family)

19. Favorite book you’ve read in 2013 from an author you’ve read previously?
“The Book of Broken Hearts” by: Sarah Ockler.

20. Best book you read in 2013 that you read based solely on a recommendation from somebody else?
“Incarnate” by: Jodi Meadows.

21. Genre you read the most from in 2013?
Dystopian. It’s my go-to genre!

22. Newest fictional crush from a book that you read in 2013?
Oh man, I have had way too many new fictional crushes this year! But the most recent would have to Trevor from “Pivot Point” by: Kasie West.

23. Best 2013 debut you read?
I’m pretty sure this is a debut… “Pivot Point” by: Kasie West.

24. Most vivid world/imagery in a book you read in 2013?
Harry Potter — the first five (the only ones I’ve read this year) have the best imagery. It transports you into that world.

25. Book that was the most fun to read in 2013?
“Harry Potter: Film Wizardry” by: Brian Sibley.

26. Book that made you cry or nearly cry in 2013?
“Allegiant” by: Veronica Roth. There’s absolutely no contest. Only book that made me cry.

27. Book you read in 2013 that you think got overlooked this year or when it came out?
“Golden” by: Jessi Kirby.

 2014-books-1024x255

1. One book you didn’t get to in 2013 but will be your number 1 priority in 2014?
“The Book Thief” by: Markus Zusak.

2. Book you are most anticipating for 2014 (non-debut)?
“Ignite Me” by: Tahereh Mafi. I need it now!

3. 2014 debut you are most anticipating?
“Prisoner of Night and Fog” by: Anne Blankman.
I honestly read so many series that I don’t read that many debuts :/ But I searched through my GoodReads and this is about the only debut I found that is coming out in 2014, so yeah.

4. Series ending you are most anticipating in 2014?
“Ignite Me” by: Tahereh Mafi!

5. One thing you hope to accomplish or do in your reading in 2014?
I hope to be able to read more books than I did this year!

Illinois vacation back during July 10th-15th

Back in July, I flew out to Chicago to meet my bestie Haley for the first time ever. She paid for my flight there and back, along with concert tickets for the Jonas Brothers (the day I got in) and then One Direction (the night before I went home). I had a really amazing time while I was out there, even though I got homesick and cried ’cause of my anxiety (if you know me, you know I don’t like crying and don’t cry often). I hope to go back someday and explore the city more. I wasn’t able to see all the things I wanted to, ’cause I didn’t have enough time.

Image

Haley and I meeting at the airport

The Jonas Brothers were incredible live. I’ve seen them once before back in 2008, but they’re so much better now. We had VIP Soundcheck tickets. Not even going to lie, I kind of felt like I was 15 all over again haha. Fireworks went off over on the Navy Pier, which we could see from our seats, during the song “Fly With Me”. Big Rob also came on through Skype during “Burnin’ Up”.

some girls passed these signs out before the concert started for us to hold up during the song “First Time”. the JoBros acknowledged the signs on twitter after the show.

Then on July 11th, we road the train from the town Haley lives in into Chicago to go to the Taste of Chicago. I had a mini pulled chicken sandwich, a shot glass sized thing of sweet tea, and a mini lemon Italian ice. Sadly, I didn’t take any pictures of my food or the Taste of Chicago (besides the tickets). After we were done at the Taste of Chicago, we walked over to the Ohio Street Beach. While Haley and two of her friends went swimming and tanned, I just sat in the shade and listened to music while staring at the gorgeous view of the skyline I had. After we were done at the beach, we headed off to the Navy Pier. We went through the shops first and I bought some postcards, along with pressing a penny with a picture of the Navy Pier on it. Then we bought our tickets to go on the Ferris wheel. Okay, so I’m scared of heights but I really wanted to go on it ’cause it’s in the Divergent trilogy, by Veronica Roth. So, I set those fears aside and got on it anyways. And after we were done with that, we took a trolley over to Michigan Avenue and went shopping at Forever 21 and the Disney Store. I didn’t buy anything, ’cause I was running low on money and needed to save it for the One Direction concert that coming Sunday. Then we were going to eat at TGI Friday’s, but I felt sick so we left as soon as we ordered the food and walked back to the train station to go back to her house.

wasn’t about to pay $35 for a version of this photo without “proof” all over it.

Then on July 12th, we went over to Naperville, IL. There’s this cute little bookshop called, Anderson’s Bookshop, over there that we really wanted to go to. After we went to the bookshop, we went to a couple little boutiques that were right down the road from it, along with the Barnes and Nobles where I picked up a couple more postcards. Then we walked back to Haley’s car and went to Five Guys for some lunch. I hadn’t ever eaten there before, but it was really good. And then we searched for the Office Depot over there and just when we were about to give up, we finally found it! We wanted to check out the One Direction line they were selling. I wish I got one of the notebooks, instead of the pens, ’cause they don’t write that well.

ImageImage

Then on July 13th, we decided to do a little shopping in the town Haley lives in. First we went to the grocery store she works at (in the bakery), and I got a yummy chocolate chip muffin. Then we ended up going to Walmart where I got this really cute double-sided notebook and a One Direction cup. After that we headed to Rue 21, where I ended up getting a cute black hi-lo skirt that was on sale. And then we went to Walgreens, where I got myself a bottle of Sinful Colors nail polish in “Island Coral”, before we headed back to her house to chill out for the rest of the day. We watched the One Direction “Up All Night” tour dvd.

ImageThen finally on the 14th, we went to Tinley Park, IL for the One Direction concert. We met up with Sarah in a parking lot before the concert, since it was our first time meeting each other. We hung out for a bit before heading over to the concert and hanging out in line. Our seats weren’t next to each other, since Sarah and her friends had lawn, so we didn’t get to see her after the concert. 5 Seconds of Summer and One Direction were amazing.

There’s still a few pictures I don’t have from the trip, ’cause they’re still on Haley’s phone and camera, but oh well. I wanted to write up this blog before I forgot to!
